Artist's Quality - Clean & GreenAll my watercolours are painted with Winsor & Newton's most durable, lightfast pigments.
One other reason I choose to paint watercolour is due to it's 'clean/green' quality. There are no nasty chemical solvents used during painting or in the clean-up process. No fumes, no headaches, no mess, no special clean-up chemicals or skin barrier creams. Winsor & Newton have been manufacturing watercolour paints since 1832 so they really know what they're doing. Their colours are luminous, strong, clear and beautifully viscous. 97% of their watercolour range have an "A" or higher, permanence rating. Winsor & Newton is used by some of my favourite watercolour artists such as Shirley Trevena and Victor Martinez. With the longevity of these premium quality watercolour paints, your painting will become a family heirloom and passed down to subsequent generations. If properly cared for, watercolour paintings will last as long, if not longer, than oil or acrylic paintings. Care for your watercolour painting Watercolour paintings must be framed with a conservation matt board to ensure the paper and painting surface is protected from debris, chemicals, dust and moisture. Ensure your painting is framed to museum archival standards using only acid-free, conservation materials. Hang your watercolour painting (any artwork) away from direct sunlight to protect the paint from damaging UV rays, especially in NZ. To clean the frame and glass, spray glass cleaner on your cloth then apply the cloth to the frame and glass. This will ensure chemical residues do not drip and leak under the glass damaging the artwork. Paper I only paint on 100% cotton rag paper, mostly Arches (first manufactured in 1492 AD) and Fabriano (dating back to 1264 AD). A Word about Framing I recommend ordinary glass for framing your watercolour painting. UV glass has a texture and colour that reduces the quality of the detail and alters and dulls the colours. Non-Reflective glass also has a texture that reduces detail. Further, these 'special' glasses are substantially more expensive than usual framers glass. Due to the high permanence rating of all my Winsor & Newton paints, these 'special' glasses are not really necessary. |
