IF YOU ARE NEW TO WATERCOLOUR, here's what I recommend
To give yourself the best starting point, 3 most important things: 1. if you can't get what is on my recommended list - don't worry, just use what you already have and replace them with good pigments as you use them up. 2. when you go to the art supply store
ESSENTIAL SUPPLIES - SUBSTITUTES ARE NOT RECOMMENDED
Paint - TUBE paints only please Artist Quality (14ml or 5ml) - ESSENTIAL Recommended Brands: Winsor & Newton or Schmincke
Choose 1 of each primary plus Burnt sienna and you'll be set - you’ll be able to mix every colour and tone imaginable using these pigments. Brushes Please see my shop below for best brush options for my classes. Unfortunately, in NZ, watercolour brushes (if you can get them!) are limited to horrible, rubbish and expensive. The best watercolour brushes are very soft natural bristle. You can paint all your work with just 4 brushes and they will last many years if properly cared for:
Watercolour Paper - essential Fabriano Artistico, 300gsm, CP, 100% cotton rag, full sheet 76x56cm – 1 sheet Bockingford is acceptable. SUBSTITUTES ARE NOT RECOMMENDED |
