If you are new to watercolour, here's what I recommend
To give yourself the best start, 3 most important things: 1. if you can't get what is on my recommendation list - don't worry, just use what you already have and replace them with good pigments as you use them up. 2. when you go to the art supply store

W&N Masking Fluid 75ml
Used to mask areas of the paper, making them resistant to watercolour.
Once dry, the masked areas will remain protected and cannot be penetrated by colour.
Dries with a slightly yellow tint, making it easy to see where it has been used.
Can be removed by rubbing with an eraser.
W&N Designer's Gouache, permanent white
Winsor & Newton have been making our Designers Gouache since 1935 - a tantalising range of opaque watercolours. Gouache paint is similar to watercolour paint, but it is opaque rather than transparent. Popular among calligraphers, designers, illustrators and commercial artists, gouache paint is perfect for creating bold, vibrant artworks. All these tones are intermixable and you can pair them with our watercolours for a flat, matte colour effect. Developed for professional designers working on illustrations for graphic reproduction. It is also widely used in fine art painting, both on its own and with transparent watercolours.
